The University of Nebraska–Lincoln offers a master’s degree in education with a focus in P-12 leadership for students seeking a school principal endorsement. Primary emphasis in all department courses is on the principles, processes and practical skills necessary for the leadership, organization and administration of educational institutions. The Master of Education program is offered both online and face-to-face, allowing the student to choose the format that best suits his or her needs. Credits from other accredited institutions can often be easily transferred to complete the program. Note: Completion of the Master of Education (M. Ed.) program enables students to be certified as a school administrator in the following fields:

Support Course (3 cr. hrs.) Education courses outside EDAD and TLTE, as approved by adviser. Approved Electives (3 cr. hrs.) Elective courses, as approved by adviser. Additional Program Requirements Each student will complete an electronic portfolio, as approved by the adviser. The portfolio documents student learning and serves as the written comprehensive examination. It must include evidence of research activity. Additional State Requirements For Nebraska administrative certification and endorsement, students must satisfy additional state requirements, including but not limited to eligibility for a standard teaching certificate, satisfactory scores on the Pre-Professional Skills Test, two successive years experience in the same school system, and academic preparation in special education and training in human relations. (Any requirements to be met for training in human relations and/or special education may be included in the 36 credit hours in the program of study and is available online.) Additional Administrative Endorsements Those seeking P-12 endorsement, or endorsement at a level different from their teaching endorsement, must complete a minimum of nine graduate semester credit hours of additional coursework beyond the 36 credit hours required for the principal endorsement at the level at which they were prepared to teach.
