The master's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education is designed for individuals who have a bachelor’s degree in family and consumer sciences or a related area, and are seeking initial teacher certification or licensure in family and consumer sciences education.
There is a nationwide shortage of family and consumer sciences teachers, especially in rural areas.
The 38-41 credit hour program provides the pedagogy requirements for a family and consumer sciences teaching certificate in Nebraska and most states. Teacher certification requirements vary by state. The first step toward certification is to contact the family and consumer sciences teacher training institution in the state where you want to teach. Alternatively, you may choose to develop and conduct youth programming in an informal educational setting.
This master's degree prepares you to:
Plan curriculum for teaching
Create a physical and psychological environment for learning
Engage students in the learning process
Examine the relationship of diverse groups and the educational process
Analyze the historical and philosophical underpinnings of FACS
Assume professional responsibilities
